“Hong Kong leader Carrie Lam apologises to nation as hundreds of thousands demand she step down”

Hong Kong’s leader Carrie Lam on Sunday apologized to the nation over the proposed extradition law as hundreds of thousands of protesters clogged the streets in black to demand she step down.

Ms Lam,  whose decision on Saturday to suspend the bill was not enough to prevent rally-goers taking to the streets, said she would “sincerely and humbly accept all criticism and to improve and serve the public”….

It was the second Sunday in a row that reportedly record numbers had rallied in defiance of their leadership and the divisive law which critics say puts foreign and Hong Kong residents at risk of being swept into China’s opaque justice system [TRANSLATION: KIDNAPPED BY THE CHINESE GOVERNMENT FOR POLITICAL DISSIDENCE] and damages the city’s reputation as a safe financial hub…”
